Suzuki Samurai: A clock is an optional extra

I cohabited with one of them for quite some time and learned to drive with a stick on it during my other life in Hawaii. The car laid out in the photo lived in a rain forest that receives 10 feet a year of acid rain. Can rust be repaired? Absolutely. Will this include a monthly supply of primer, paint, metal, bondo and sandpaper? Yes, but it’s not that car.

History

In addition, the Samurai, dubbed Jimny outside the United States, attracted customers for about $ 13,200, which is justifiable for an all-wheel drive car. That was in the 1980s, quality standards were lower, expectations were lower, and standard equipment levels were very low for some cars. In 1988, Consumer Reports recommended that all 150,000 copies of this sold vehicle be recalled and permanently removed from the U.S. due to the risk of tipping over.

The following are optional extras:

  • A clock
  • Cloth seats
  • Door cards
  • 3 position interior light
  • Egress handles
  • Tachometer
  • Rear seats
  • Wheel center caps
  • Dipping rearview mirror
  • Upper door trim
  • Air conditioning

The following were not available:

  • Automatic transmission
  • Power windows
  • Power steering
  • A tape deck
  • Fuel injection
  • Airbags
  • Cassette player
  • Central locking

Exterior

It bears a striking resemblance to the two-door Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen. Doors have no sound, nor do they have the weight of a commercial refrigerator or safe. This car is small. If you have not seen him personally, he is probably less than you think. Almost everything outside this car is utilitarian. Wood panels may have been an option, but the style was never really available.

Interior

When gripping handles are an option, it is obvious that this will be a fairly simple place to sit. The glove box is locked, but the lock is a purely academic exercise. The lack of a tachometer is annoying, the steering wheel is fixed in the position of an almost school bus. Legroom does not exist even if the seats are pushed back. While driving this six, there may be knees against the trait. There are no armrests. Please look elsewhere if sound levels below 80 decibels are preferable at any time. I was in high or high school at the time when my dad decided to install sound-absorbing material throughout the car, which actually made a noticeable difference.

Our tester was equipped with a dealer-installed rear folding seat option. Only five-year-olds will be able to have their hips at any angle, except for the angle of inclination up. Carpet was set as the standard for these cars, although it is definitely surprising that they are worried.

Practicality

Without the rear seats, this is really more than the Volvo C30. 30 cubic feet are available thanks to the square proportions of the car. Attach a pair of uprights on top, and two 16-foot seated kayaks will work just fine. 30 cubic feet allows you to spend weekends for two people and bicycles, so it’s not too useless, and given that the interior is not trimmed with any of this annoying plastic, fabric, rubber or leather, there is no reason to scratch it. ,
