Los Angeles: The Mazda6 finally gains turbocharged power

What’s going on?

Since the excellent and superior Mazda6 sedan appeared in 2012, it has only appeared in America with the only SKYACTIV-G four-cylinder, 2.5-liter naturally aspirated gasoline. After much deliberation and a strong desire to equip the Mazda6 with the latest turbo four installed in the current CX-9, Mazda finally answered this challenge.

Unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in 2017, Mazda unveiled several important updates to the flagship Mazda6 sedan in 2018. One of these changes includes a new turbo power option!

The Mazda6 gets blown

As we hoped, the new Mazda6 can now be equipped with the same 2.5-liter SKYACTIV-G turbocharged four-cylinder engine that debuted in the current CX-9 crossover with 250 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque at 93 octane . Mazda says the engine produces 227 horsepower on a regular 87, but why do you need to?

Unfortunately, Mazda offers only a six-speed automatic with a 2.5-liter four. Although the company says its torque converter remains locked for most of its function, providing a closer connection between the transmission and the machine.

There are chassis and suspension tweaks too

To cope with the extra power, Mazda also applied some settings and settings for the chassis and suspension. For example, the Mazda6 benefits from reinforcing the chassis and bodywork in the form of thicker sheet metal in the rear wheel wells, additional mounts and increased rear suspension mounts to reduce noise, vibration and sharpness and increase overall stiffness. The suspension geometry has been revised to take into account the extra power and power that Mazda promises a smoother and more advanced ride with improved driving dynamics.
