The BMW X2 Concept previews Bavaria’s next entry-level crossover

The rumored BMW X2 finally comes to fruition as a concept to preview a near-completed, new production crossover from Munich.

BMW used the focus of the 2016 Paris Motor Show to present a new concept for previewing the new entry-level crossover. It’s called the BMW X2 Concept, and, as you probably already guessed, the car gives us a clear idea of what to expect from the long-known entry-level crossover company.

So, let’s get down to business.

What is it?

This is a SUV crossover concept that follows the BMW Coupe-Bathing trend. For example, you have an X6, which should be a “coupe” version of X5. In addition, there is a fairly new X4, basically a smaller version of the BMW X6 or the BMW X3 coupe version, depending on how you look at it. Finally, you have X1 at the bottom of the package. The X2 concept is basically an X1 coupe, or it’s a smaller version of the X4.

What is there to notably know about it?

Take this into account. BMW coupe-like crossovers are a paradoxical puzzle. You see, the BMW X4 and X6 play more stylistic roles than their more direct and utilitarian brothers and sisters X3 and X5. The trade-off, however, is a decrease in practicality due to the shorter roof lines that compromise the space at the rear of the trunk. To top it all off, the X4 and X6 are more expensive.

You think it will cost less because you get less space. But no, the X4 and X6 are intended for those who are more prone to style and prefer a riding rifle brake instead of the more vertical, utilitarian X3 or X5.

The X2 view violates this formula, in fact resembling a more traditional crossover with trunk space. The roof back line is missing, but the roof as a whole is more inclined than X1. All in all, it doesn’t look bad.
