Details of BMW’s new quad-turbo diesel inline-six surface

Not so long ago, there were rumors that BMW was really trying to go beyond its line of next-generation turbocharged sixes. Now, these rumors seem to be true, as BMW allegedly published some specific details about the new engine at the 37th Vienna International Motor Symposium in Austria.

With a 3.0 liter engine capacity and these four turbines, the new BMW diesel engine has a power output of at least 394 hp. And according to the latest report from 7post.com for BMW 7 Series enthusiasts, it is capable of producing much more, but is limited due to the limitations of the ZF eight-speed automatic transmission.

This seems somewhat ironic, as the eight-speed ZF is capable of handling the Dodge Charger and Challenger SRT Hellcat siblings, as well as the supercharged 6.2L HEMI V8 rated at 707 hp. So, something here is not entirely clear.

However, the first model to receive this new turbocharged six will be the current BMW 7 Series, but in the 750d xDrive form. In this application, the 750d xDrive is said to accelerate to 60 in just 4.5 seconds, peaking with a conventional marker at 155 mph. This will make the new car not only faster than the previous model with its three-turbo installation, it is supposedly five percent more efficient with fuel consumption.

BMW also obviously managed to save a few dollars with a new design, as it lowers the cost. Although a progressive turbocharger design still exists to help with the elimination of turbo lag. In other words, two of the turbochargers are smaller than the other two, which allows smaller ones to work with a lower engine speed range, while larger turbochargers are activated when the engine accelerates and outruns the smaller snails.
