The 2017 Hyundai Avante Sport is our new Elantra Sport as well

As expected from several confirmations given by Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuhovsky that Hyundai Elantra Sport is on its way, Hyundai in South Korea has discovered a new package for the domestic market.

Originally announced at SEMA in November, and before that, at the product presentation for the Elantra in San Diego, the 2017 Hyundai Elantra Sport is expected to receive the same 1.6-liter turbocharged four as the Sonata Sport Turbo. About 200 hp expected for a car in the United States, with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard and a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic.

This is likely to ultimately become the sportiest Elantra and bring the car closer to a slightly sharper Honda Civic driving experience.

Other changes seem like a more aggressive body, larger wheels, LED daytime running lights and a new Sport icon on the rear panel. Headlights and taillights also look more shady. The rear panel is also decorated with chrome nozzles.

Performance will not be overwhelming, but the fact that Hyundai seeks to increase the “sporting” factor of its cars makes it laudable. Do not forget, if they really tried, they have a former BMW M chief engineer who helps them with tuning the chassis and suspension, as well as with the driving dynamics.
