The Saginaw 68 and 86 are by far our best-selling power steering gearboxes, probably because of how many cars they were in and how many of them are still on the road. As can be guessed from the names, 68 and 86 are two different gearboxes, but in practice they are 100% interchangeable. One has four mounting bolts and the other has three. Interestingly, it is the 3-hole box that is the strongest, so that’s what we take. If your car was originally equipped with a mounting 4-hole gearbox, this 3-hole version will bolt in exactly the same way as the OEM.

We carry four versions of this gearbox depending on what you are looking for in your replacement:

82-00305R (Order Here) – This gearbox is a Saginaw OEM cast, completely rebuilt in the USA, all of our rebuilt steering gearboxes and frames receive a thorough cleaning and inspection, with new bearings and Sealed, port threads for power steering lines are checked to ensure a reliable seal and any potentially damaged gears are re-machined or replaced. This gearbox will fit and perform exactly the same as OEM with a 3 to 3-1/4 turn lock-to-lock steering ratio.

82-00305 AN (Order Here) – This is a brand new stock replacement gearbox designed to have the same fit and performance as the OEM Saginaw, along with the same steering ratio. This saves you time and money without the need for a deposit or original return and gives you the peace of mind to have new steering components.

82-00305 HPR (Order Here) – Another OEM cast, also completely rebuilt in the USA. It is ideal for off-road applications, for better control at low speeds, but will also be an advantage for “pro-touring” muscle cars that see autocross use in SCCA CAM classes.

82-00305 QR (Order Here) – This is another refurbished OEM box, but it has a faster steering ratio of 2.75 turns lock to lock, versus 3.25 turns for the stock gearbox. It offers faster steering response and better handling.
