Jeep’s Grand Wagoneer revival and Dodge’s next-gen Ram heavy duties delayed

What’s causing the delay?

The ability to use the Grand Wagoneer is the use of the next generation Grand Cherokee platform, with the exception of the extended one, to increase the wheelbase. Although, according to the latest research and development results, the new platform designed for the Grand Cherokee, apparently, can not satisfy the additional requirements of Grand Wagoneer. So now, Jeep has to find another platform that can meet the size requirements for the new flagship.

You might think: “But the Dodge has a Durango, which is essentially a longer Grand Cherokee. So why doesn’t the Grand Cherokee platform work with the Grand Wagoneer plan? According to recent reports, the platform simply does not fit the dimensions required for the Wagoneer, and Durango is already expanding the limits of flexibility with the Grand Cherokee platform.

So finding a new platform for Grand Wagoneer will not be easy. Jeep doesn’t have enough deep pockets to design a completely new platform from scratch, not to mention one model. Thus, the company is looking for its corporate brother, Dodge, for the possible use of the classic body design on the frame, starting with the Ram platform.

It is possible, but far-fetched. Off-road vehicles can be very sophisticated and smooth, even with integrated bodywork on the frame. Just look at all GM trucks (especially the Cadillac Escalade) and even Ford alternatives, such as the latest Lincoln Navigator.

Even the most recent Lexus LX570 and Mercedes-Benz Gelandewagen use classic truck designs, but they still can’t match the sophistication that Range Rover provides.
