Rolls-Royce insists you don’t call its new SUV, an SUV

Rolls-Royce’s first four-wheel drive vehicle will be “a high-sided” one.

So here I am again talking about SUVs. But a specific issue is being discussed shortly. And it comes from a very unlikely manufacturer of SUVs.

That company is Rolls-Royce, a car manufacturer known for some of the most luxurious coupes, convertibles and sedans in the world. Crossovers and SUVs are not so many.

But SUV crossovers are the most popular thing in sales, and it was only a matter of time before the super-luxury automakers launched their own. Bentley started the trend with the Bentayga. With Rolls-Royce as a leading competitor, Rolls realized that it could not allow Bentley to take all measures.

So now Rolls-Royce is releasing its own crossover to compete with the Bentayga Bentley. But Rolls insists you don’t call it an SUV.

This, obviously, implies that the new crossover should get its roots from the next-generation Phantom sedan. And the Phantom is already getting its backbone from the BMW 7 Series.

In a conversation with global product communications manager, Rolls-Royce Motoring also learned that many of the 7 Series technologies will appear in the crossover.

“Project Cullinan will certainly be a completely different Rolls-Royce experience. But it will also be a completely different experience for luxury customers, ”said Rolls-Royce Andrew Boyle.

Not a word about what should sit under the hood of Cullinan. But since it is based on the phantom and the BMW 7 Series, chances for a BMW V12 are not ruled out. Already, Phantom is equipped with the same engine with two turbines in the highest level BMW 760Li.
