Volvo to sell Chinese-built long-wheelbase S90 in Europe and US

Unconfirmed by Volvo’s European and American divisions, but a Volvo China executive apparently broke the news in Chengdu.

Volvo is about to launch its new flagship S90 luxury sedan. At first availability, Volvo will sell the S90 in short-wheelbase and T5 and T6 uniforms. The T8 plug-in hybrid top-spec model will join the lineup with the long-roofed V90 soon after.

AutomotiveNews is now reporting that the S90 with a long wheelbase will be sold in the US and Europe. News came from

Allegedly, confirmation came from Volvo China Sales Manager Yuan Xiaolin at a press conference during the 2016 Chengdu Auto Show.

Xiaolin said Volvo unveiled plans to export a Chinese long wheelbase S90 at a press conference.

While discussing this topic with Volvo Europe or Volvo Cars US, none of the regional offices responded to an AN request.

Initial production of the S90 began at Volvo’s main plant in Torsland, Sweden. With the introduction of the S90 in the Chinese market at the end of this year, Volvo had already planned to build the S90 in China for this market in order to reduce costs. Volvo is committed to serving the Chinese market with an extended version.

Wealthy Chinese buyers openly express their love for long cars that can be driven as a symbol of economic status.

Along with the S60 L, the future S90 L, Volvo is launching the first generation XC90 in Dakin as an “obsolete” model due to the high demand for this particular model in China.
